Celebrating Heritage.

29 Jul

My mother’s parents are French and German.  I knew this growing up.

My father’s parents are Irish and Scots-Irish.  I just found this out this year.

So, to celebrate our heritage (and because it’s fun!) I have been doing all sorts of things Irish.

For example, I have seen “Leap Year” and “The Secret of Kells” (Irish movies) and begun reading a history book for school called “How the Irish Saved Civilization.” I love traditional Celtic music, and have a music channel devoted to it on  I’ve even dyed my hair red (though that had nothing to do with my Irish discovery) and tried learning the basic elements of Irish step-dancing.  But the best part is this: in a week, my family is going to the Irish festival in Dublin, Ohio!

Can you tell I am so very excited?

One day, I will actually visit the Green Isles.

Don’t kiss me, but I AM Irish!
